More than just fans?

The adage "You become like your pet and vice versa" holds true in so many other situations--your spouse, your friends, the movies you watch etc etc.

But if there's one prevalent social phenomenon today, it would undoubtedly be that "You become the football club you support".

Manchester United Fan Character Profile
Always saddled with the "favourites" tag, you are used to being a winner, and why not? You are that good. Driven and passionate, you never give up without a fight and often strive to improve yourself.

Alas, this winning attitude makes you more enemies than friends in the long run, and also puts you on a pedestal...vulnerable and open to attacks.

In fact, being in a top position for so long has contributed to a rather spoilt attitude, that when things don't go your way, it's hard to admit your mistakes and easier to point fingers at others. (Read: Loser, Sore).

But at the end of the day, with all the success, hardwork and resources you have, who gives a damn?

Liverpool and Newcastle Fan Profiles
Nostalgic and ever hopeful. You often look back to the good old days when things were better and the roses smelt sweeter because in your current state, you'd rather shoot yourself.

Pathetic current affairs may dampen your spirit but often, history never allows you to fall too far and you always pick yourself up. And not to worry, for there will always be friends and companions around.

Ever the optimist, even if the world ended today, you would still believe that somehow you would still be around tomorrow. Because no matter how bad things get, hey...there's always tomorrow.

Arsenal Fan Profile
Almost similar to the Liverpool fan in terms of optimism, the one major difference is that you favour style over substance. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, as long as you do it with style. Your objective in life is not to win but to entertain.

That's not saying you haven't had success in life, which is quite the opposite. It's just that you've tasted it and it could never match what you feel when you entertain.

To be gifted opportunities is almost blasphemy, you would rather build things up from scratch because at least, you could proudly claim that it was all your work and no one else's.

Chelsea Fan Profile

Previously an outcast, you were suddenly shifted into the spotlight by a freak occurrence. In fact, you've tasted quick success, albeit a bit too quickly. And due to the nature of that success, few actually give you credit where it's due.

Your winning mentality is only second to that of a Manchester United fan but the key difference is that when the going gets tough, you get going. And nothing can stand in the way of you and success, not even a Manchester United fan.

Sadly, you are quite often subject to illusions of grandeur, which plagues and adversely affects any endeavour you undertake.

Blackburn, Portsmouth and Bolton Fan Profiles
You make the best of what you've got, and sometimes that goes a long way. Potential is a word that you often use and promise is normally what you achieve. In fact, success and opportunities come your way due to shrewd preparation and calculation.

In short, it's all about playing to your strengths, no matter how limited. Because for you, the sky's the limit, even if others say otherwise. It's all heart and soul, 100%.

Manchester City and Everton Fan Profiles
It's difficult to follow that commandment of not coveting your neighbour's possessions and success because frankly, you are the relative perennial underachiever.

Constantly living in the shadow of your neighbour makes for constant agony and subsequently leads to self-doubt, which in turn, threatens to derail whatever opportunities you have.

Angry and bitter would be appropriate adjectives.

Fulham and Derby Fan Profiles
The perennial nice guy, you often give in to others. This general niceness leads to uncompromising circumstances and severely limits your chances for success in life.

But it's alright because unlike everyone else in the rat-race, there's more to life than just money and success. Your philosophy to life is more reflective of the French and Italians, and there's always time for catching up and enjoying life.

What could possibly be better than a nice cup of tea and watching people walk by?

A couple of other fan profiles do come to mind, e.g. Sunderland fan=young upstart, Tottenham=always the nearly-man, Aston Villa and West Ham=xenophobe etc.

Of course, reading about yourself is never pleasing but deep down inside, do spare some time and ponder and perhaps, enjoy life like a good ol' Fulham fan. I mean, look where it's gotten them? :)
