As I browsed at the fish stall yesterday, I suddenly realised that I had close to nothing on those fish. In all honesty, I could only cook a fish fillet or cutlet. (Unless you include dunking the entire fish into a curry, then that's a whole new story.)
So there I was, almost like a lost child amongst the fish. Some whole, some swimming, some fillets, some cutlets. Looking for something familiar, some neutral ground. So I went for mackerel cutlet. Yes, I know it isn't exactly breaking new ground but I wasn't in the mood for steaming a whole pomfret.
So by combining my prior knowledge of cooking meat and sourcing some insight on the internet, I think I coped pretty well with the mackerel.
Sauteed cumin and pepper mackerel with lemon and butter topped with tomato
Regretably, no picture was taken. But the unfreshness of the fish got to me. Yeah, allergy. This cues a much needed trip to the fish market: For inspiration and fresh seafood.
P.S. All I need is to give that dish a french name, and it'd be ten times sexier.
